With 400,000 Project Management Professionals worldwide, the Project Management Institute’s certification program is now a standard across all industries. Becoming a certified Project Management Professional (PMP) involves meeting certain education and experience requirements, and passing a 200-question exam. (PMP Certification Handbook from PMI.)
The key to passing the exam is to understand PMI’s view of project management. This means reviewing and understanding PMI’s Body of Knowledge (PMBOK), but also becoming familiar with how PMI expects project managers to apply that knowledge. In most cases, this requires PMP-candidates to become familiar with new concepts during their PMP certification preparation, and/or to “unlearn” practices that they have picked up over the years.
Our PMP prep courses are 40 hours long. We offer 5-day boot-camps, as well as 1-day-a-week, and evening schedules.
While we focus solely on preparation for the PMP exam, we believe the best way to prepare is to understand the information in the Project Management Body of Knowledge - not just to remember a few key topics parrot-fashion. Gaining a understanding takes a little longer, but also improves learning and retention.
No. Many PMP prep courses, particularly boot-camps, are intended for the end of your preparation. They serve as a last "push" prior to taking the exam. Many of them require you (in the small print) to fulfill your 35 contact hours of project management education prior to attending. Key Consulting's prep courses are intended for the beginning of your preparation, and are intended to establish a solid foundation of understanding that will shorten your overall preparation timeframe.
Additionally, many PMP courses teach PMBOK terms and concepts in something of a vacuum. You may pass the test, but your ability to apply the techniques will be limited. Key Consulting's PMP courses illustrate concepts using templates, real-life examples, and practical exercises - seeking to create a complete understanding of the PMBOK, and an ability to apply the concepts outside the classroom.
You can review our PMP boot-camp schedule for all locations, as well as our Bellevue and Tucson schedules.
We operate our own Project Management Education Centers, dedicated to project management training - so we normally don't have to rent expensive hotel space. We typically don't fly instructors around the country, and we don't advertise in glossy magazines. We also provide project management consulting services to corporate clients - so we don't have to make all our revenue from training.
